Pennsylvania Christmas

Today we celebrated our PA Christmas. We wanted to have our own little Christmas before heading to MN for 3 Christmases in 4 days. Should be lots of fun!!!

We started by removing another ring from our chain counting down to Christmas....
then a few gifts.

The kids played and played with their gifts all morning and almost didn't want to leave them to go for lunch.
We had lunch at Chick-fil-a. The kids had gotten free meals that needed to be used by the end of the year and they have a great play area!! And we have been cooped up for too long here!

William even braved the slide!! After the first time down he was hooked!

Then home again for playing and relaxing....and a little Cash Cab before dinner (by the way, the other day William answered a question from the show!! He was very excited that he knew the answer! It was something about a 'Big Red Dog'. : ) )

And so it begins

This morning, out of the blue Callie said, "I know it." I asked, "What do you know?" and Callie waved her hand across the air and said, "Everything."

Nice.

Yesterday we attended a birthday party for Landon, a friend from church who turned 4. It was held at Cluggy's, the local "Chucky-Cheese". William would not go in the big climbing gym, but enjoyed the ball pit, bounce house and games.

He really had fun driving the motorcycle and laughed very hard when he ran into things.

Callie and Jon joined us later and she had fun too.

This is her version of ski ball.

Cookies! ...a performance.....AND $10 Friday!

We made some Christmas cookies on Wednesday. Mmm. (Don't worry, no eggs were used in this recipe...but I would have let them lick the beaters even if there was.)

They cut and decorated some cookies, but I took over with the cutting after a couple rolls and ended up finishing the decorating too, but they had fun while it lasted!

Finally!!!

William's class did a little show for the mom's at my Community Bible Study group. I remember his teacher last year saying he adds extra movements to any song they are singing....now I get it. (But I'm also pretty sure he had to go to the bathroom.)
And she's just cute. : )

So proud of her "hat" (William's shirt)

ALSO!!!!!!!!!! Today is Friday! That means $10 Friday for Water4Christmas!! If everyone pitches in $10....or whatever you can....we can together make a BIG difference. Last week about $1500 was raised on Friday!! We have now dug 2 wells in Africa!!! Amazing!!! Think of all the lives changed, all the people touched, all the clean water for families!! Keep it up! Go to the button on the side of my page to donate. And check out Jody's site for more info and more ideas!

Recently...Thanksgiving...and Christmas is coming

We often find Callie sleeping on her floor with her pillow and blankets. Recently we found her asleep in her room like this, with the light on.

We joined the Pisle (and extended family) for the Christmas Parade downtown. It was a chilli 25 degrees, but we bundled up and the kids enjoyed the parade.

We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with the Zentz Family and friends. We had a great time and the kids had a blast! They even put on a dance show for us, costumes and all....Chris denies having anything to do with W getting into this outfit.

The next evening we got our tree out. We have not set up a tree in this house ever. We haven't had our own tree for the last three years. We decided this year we would set up our tree. William helped put it together. Then he and Jon enjoyed checking out the lights.

And tonight was Hanging of the Greens at church. It was a nice evening of decorating. William hung our bulb on the tree. And refreshments and fellowshipping followed.

Burnt Pie

Just burnt the pie crust while cleaning poo out of the underoos! Hate that. Starting over.

Journey to MN

Our most recent drive to Minnesota was probably our best drive. And before that we had not made the trip since last December. Both times I kept a journal of sorts since we always get asked how the drive went.

This trip I kept track of how many times William said, "Excuse me, Mom...." The total was 31 times. On a 23 hour drive that might not seem like much. But he slept for at least 10 hours. So, in 13 hours he said it 31 times, this makes an average of 2.4 times an hour, once every 25 minutes. Of course, also considering at times he would quietly look out the window or read a book, there were times when he said it 3-4 times in a 5 minute span. Usually he had a question or comment attached to it, but there were times when he had to think of something to say after he said, "excuse me, Momma.....", "Yes, William," ... "Um, Ah, Um, that car is red." "Yes, it's red," Sigh.

The previous trip went like this:

5 AM - woke William up. He said, "oh no my cars, where are my cars, my cars" .... as he was waking up. Then I told him we were going to Minnesota and he asked, "Will my Christmas presents be there?"
5:15 - left the house. W specifically made sure we were turning left out of the driveway toward the direction we always point to when we tell him where MN is.
5:20 - W asked if we were in MN yet. Jon told him no, first we had to go through tunnels, over the mountain, and through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.
5:25 - W saw a Santa by a house and again asked if we were in MN. And asked, "will my presents be under my tree in MN?"
5:30 - Saw a star on a house, W said, "A star, just like the wise men saw. The star surprised them, just like in my verse, Jesus Christ the Lord, and the angels talked to them." Meanwhile Callie was quietly sucking her thumb and holding her bear with her blanket over her head.
5:35 - W noticed the stars in the sky and sang Twinkle Twinkle to them.
5:38 - W Dropped his pillow and bear and got them back.
5:41 - Caught W chewing on something, asked what it was ... it was "my snot" as he put it.
5:42 - Gave W a flashlight to play with, that lasted 5 minutes
5:47 - W wanted a drink of water
5:50 - Back to playing with the flashlight
5:53 - Tunnel #1 under the Tuscarora Mountains. W grined and said "ahh" at all the lights
5:55 - The song God of Wonders came on the radio and W recognized it from a DVD we have, "Just like the hippopotamous" he said, which is what he calls that DVD
5:59 - Caught W picking his nose again
6:01 - W decided to take attendance. "Mom, are you here?", "Daddy Selin, are you here?"
6:03 - flashlight died
6:04 - W took attendance again
6:08 - Callie whined, W said, "Callie be patient, Mom, will you tell her to be quiet?"
6:09 - W asked what was in a truck we passed, I told him "stuff"
6:15 - Going up a big hill W said, " I think we're gonna make it" because he knows it's a mountain, like the Little Engine That Could went over.
6:18 - W pointed out the lights he saw in the distance, it's Breezewood.
6:25 - breakfast
6:28 - W asked for the flashlight which is charging
6:29 - W asked what another truck is hauling. I told him I don't know and he said, "It's hauling to another construction site. Hauling for the crane"
6:55 - Tunnel #2, the Allegheny tunnel. W again loved it.
7:13 - W made a cirlce with his cheerios on the pillow in his lap
7:30 - Leap Pad
8:00 - bathroom break and more Leap Pad
8:30 - W played with cars, tummy not feeling too well
8:35 - W complained about tummy again
8:40 - Tummy complaints again
9:00 - books on tape
9:15 - W wanted the flashlight again and asked me to tell Callie to stop yelling
9:30 - read books quietly then stole Callie's blanket, bear, cup and spoon
9:45 - caught W chewing on a plastic alligator
10:15 - bathroom break
10:30 - W chewing on bus wheels
10:45 - W chewing on bear
10:47 - W chewing on seat belt and fakes crying after being scolded
10:50 - lunch (finally realized the boy must be hungry)
11:30 - Leap pad
12:40 - W touched shiny wrapping paper in the back of the jeep and asks if it's for Santa? for Jesus?
12:43 - W cried because Jon made him stop playing with the wrapping paper
12:45 - gave W a surprise/new toy airplane and he was quiet and played with that for a long time!
1:30 - bathroom break
1:45 - snack and still playing with the airplane
2:00 - W stole Callie's cup and I took away his airplane for 2 minutes
2:30 - peek-a-boo with Callie and W and me
2:48 - W asked for "Curious George on the radio" ... book on tape
3:30 - W chewed a wheel off the airplane
4:00 - Chicago....2 firetrucks and lots of trains
5:00 - supper
5:30 - bathroom break
6:15 - another bathroom break....but this one was a W false alarm
6:25 - Callie almost asleep, W trying to sleep
6:27 - W up again and another attempt at the bathroom with again no success
6:38 - on the road again after a detour to find a bathroom, W reading in the dark
8:00 - both kids sleep
10:00 - arrive in "Minnesconsin"

During all this Callie played with her cups and spoons and bear and sucked her thumb and occassionally made some noise, but was not near as active as William since she was only 20 months at the time. She mostly just watched him do whatever he was doing. She does not do this now. She lets her needs be known now!

William's happy places

We went to play with some friends yesterday. When we got home William would not stop smiling and goofing around and making funny faces. He was clearly having a great day! I said to him, "William are you in a happy place?" and he said, "Yeah, I'm at an ice cream shop...for pretend!" That would make me happy too.

And last night when I checked on them before I went to bed, I covered him up with the blankets he had lost and he said, "airplanes an.....". That was it, dreaming of airplanes. I couldn't ask for any better dreams for him.

With all the upheaval of our lives right now, I'm glad he is doing okay. Jon is staying home with the kids right now while I work full time. My hours are all over the place; days, evenings, nights, whatever, and they're a couple days on a couple off, no consistency. For about a week there William was getting a bit more emotional than usual, but I think he's settling into our season of chaos. But I really hope it ends soon!! It's been a tough few weeks of working so much and having the role reversal thing going on. Getting back to normal once Jon goes back to work will be a very nice thing!

Now I must get back to rocking my baby....my Callie baby, laying on my lap sucking one of her doll bottles. It's one of her favored activities these days.

Callie Jo.....

Callie is learning about her middle name. A couple weeks ago I told her she was Callie Johannah. She said, "No I Callie Girl" and also, "No, I Callie Princess". Wednesday evening she said, "I Callie John" (which is William's middle name). I said, "No, you're Callie Johannah". To this she said, "I Callie Johannah....I Callie Jo-Mama". : ) We laughed!!! And then she continued, "I Callie Jo-William". Funny girl!!

And then today, this.

The camera cut off here, but she was about done anyway.

Fall has come and gone

Callie Corrects

#1 ~ When Callie was learning her colors I would ask "what's this one?" she would answer and if she was wrong, I would sometimes show her the color she had just said and then return to the color in question and ask again. She was grilling me on my colors one day and when we got to the last color, which was green, her strongest, I decided to say yellow instead. She said, "no, what's this color?" and pointed again, then I said, "blue", to this she points at the blue and says, "No, this is blue, what's this color?" and then I got it right, it was green.

#2 ~ When we round the corner to church Callie yells, "Look, churrrrch" (and William joins) until we acknowledge that, yes, there's church. One day before we rounded the corner I said, "Callie, look rocks." she said "yeah, rocks" then I said "Callie look cows." she said "yeah, cows" then we saw the church. Often as we drive she will point things out, "Look, Mom, ______" and I will say, "yes, ____". This Sunday, as we left church the cows were particularly close to the fence. She said, "look, cows, Mama." I said, "Yes, they're looking at you and they're saying, 'look mom kids'." Then I wispered to Jon "she's going to correct me"....and she said, "No, Mom, cows say Mooo!"

She'll keep us in line.

MN Visit

We recently returned from a long over due trip to MN. It was fun to see lots of friends and relatives. William had many questions about who were friends and who were cousins and, since cousins were also friends does that mean friends are also cousins? I think he has it figured out now.

We first drove straight through to South Dakota to spend some time with my brother Caleb and our dad. We were able to watch Caleb pitch. The spectator area was pretty muddy, but it occupied the kids so we could watch a bit of the game. He throws some good ball.

After that we drove to Jon's parent's place spent the night and Sunday morning there. We saw his grandfather and then the kids and I headed to my Dad's place for a few days.

Callie was lucky enough to stay up a little late watching the World Series with Grandpa T.

She also got her fill of babies. We met four new little ones, 2 friends and 2 relatives. This is 6 month old Baby Carter.

They also enjoyed time with Charlie....these two girls had some fun here...and I'm sure will have much much more fun times over the years....after they finished their water they began chanting back and forth and hitting the table and laughing. It was fun.

After the above visit with friends we headed to Jon's cousin Shannon's place. She and her hubby graciously hosted that side of the family for a pizza dinner. It was nice to see them ALL and meet 7 month old Johanna. This picture includes all the younger ones at this gathering but the older four were around too. We so appreciat them all taking the evening of their busy lives to visit with us. With all the action, I'm not sure Callie even noticed there was a tiny one around.

Back at my dad's place the kids emptied out Grandma T's cupboards in the name of playing "grocery store". Grandmas never mind this kind of thing.

We played at the playground in Randolp a couple times. That is a great playground! And they got their first taste of rock climbing! William could do it himself after the first time, Callie needed a little help.

Before we headed up to Jon's parents the kids took in some hunting action. They were so excited about the sound the arrows made as they zipped through the air. But Callie would cover/shade her eyes just before the shot.

Thursday we went to the Como Zoo with Jon's parents, we saw many animals, but this was the biggest attraction. When we arrived at this fence there was a row of three other kids that moved along shortly after we arrived.

But William did like watching the penguins swimming. They were too fast for a picture, but we got one with the statues.

A very nice day to be outside and enjoying the animals and time with the grandparents.

That evening we were excited to see our friends Jeff and Kristen and their two girls. This was our first time meeting "Baby Amanda" who quickly got upgraded to "Friend Amanda" since she is over a year already!

We went trick or treating with Cousin Drew and also spent some time getting to know 6.5 mo old Baby Ben a little. We had briefly seen Ben and his family on Sunday, but both kids seemed oblivious that he was even there. However, when we drove up to their house on Friday, Callie imediately said, "Baby Ben's house". And just today she asked what Baby Ben was doing.

Saturday was Birthday Party Day. My mom recently had a birthday so we celebrated while we were visiting. The kids all had fun jumping on the neighbor's trampoline.

The girls got their turn too.
Then it was supper time....the only silent moment of the day. And after that the cake. They all blew the candles out and then all started grabbing for the candles and the candy letters on the cake and some just dug into the frosting.

Pin the Candle on the Cake.

And Sunday....yard work!! The kids had a blast helping Grandpa Bob mow up the leaves. He even let them steer even though they went every direction all over the yard.

Callie enjoyed the mower, but Grandpa Bob is still known for sharing food in her mind.
On the way home we enjoyed a little game of "I spy" shapes. Callie broke out the binoculars for this game.
The drive home was colorful! It was a beautiful day to drive and enjoy the scenery across the states. And there you have it. Our most relaxing visit yet.

Water for Christmas

I have a blog friend named Jody, well, I like to call her friend but she knows much less about me than I know about her thanks to her great blog. Anyway, She and a group of ladies from her area are in the amazing habit of getting involved in ministries and inviting anyone and everyone along.

The current project is WATER FOR CHRISTMAS. Go here to read her blog explaining the need and here to read ideas how to participate in this project and get it going in your area. You can also click on the Button on the side of my blog to go directly to the web site to find out more information and to give to this great cause! What better Christmas gift could you give to anyone?? (quick note: at water4christmas.com when you go to donate, a couple people have said that it is a little confusing. And it is. To donate to Water For Christmas, you need to scroll down to the near bottom of the page and use that donate button. NOT the tab at the top of the page. We can’t track it that way and it won’t go to Water For Christmas..but to a general fund. So scroll down. Use the donate button towards the bottom. Thanks.)

Also you can go to this etsy shop and buy this super cute bracelet made with glass beads from Ghana and the bracelets–which come with an “I Gave…Water For Christmas” card are simple reminders of clean water and the people living without. They are $5 and all proceeds go to Water For Christmas.

I can make a little difference, but together we can all make a BIG difference!
