Trapped

Today at our church was the funeral for a young man who died after a 6 year battle with cancer. He was only 38. When I care for cancer patients, particularly young ones, I often wonder how it would feel to live every moment in a body that is literally fighting against itself, slowly destroying itself, and to have no power to do anything about it except wait. Here is what Rod, the man now cancer free and residing in heaven, told Vernon, our visitation pastor, last week. He told him that he felt trapped in his own body. I praise God that now Rod is free. Not trapped in his deteriorating body. He fought a very good fight. He never looked run down or weak or discouraged when I saw him at church. Just joyful and energetic. Enjoying every moment. I know he had his rough moments (I cared for him during one), but he was an inspirational example even then. My heart breaks for his wife and two young girls.

Lunch time

~ Callie finished her cherries, laying the stems in one pile and the seeds in another.

~ I cut William's watermelon and removed the seeds, he said, "You're awefully cool!"

~ Callie told me, "You're awesome to spit those seeds out"

~ Callie said, "I'm awesome to take these seeds out, William, I'm awesome."

Yummy watermelon.

Too too funny!

We're working on new life insurance policies. They called to verify Jon's height and weight. (are you laughing already? it gets better.) With the numbers we reported he does not qualify for the Preferred Plus insurance.

But if he gained 4 pounds it would make a $97 a year difference!! Lol! Bring on the butter! .... or ankle weights!

I love him.

so different they are.

We were watching a show that had a little girl in the hospital who had been stung by bees. William didn't understand how this happened because he couldn't see the bees. The girl's mom arrived and called her "baby". William asked me why she called her "Baby". I explained that she was the little girls mom and just like I sometimes call him Baby, she called her little girl Baby. On the flip side, Callie asked, "Is that Katie's mommy?". She knew the girl's name and immediately understood that this woman who called her Baby, must be her mom.

William: Another tv reference. We watched a little Man vs Wild the other day and at supper, William wanted to pretend. He pretended that he was Survivor Man and the pizza we were eating was actually cat fish that he had caught that tasted like "raw mud". And we had to be on the look out for other animals as we ate ....and it squished out his mouth like the bugs the guy had eaten on the show. Gross.

Callie: Sings and makes up songs. Her newest songs are not true, but she sings them. So, don't believe her. They go as follows, "I'm gonna be a big sister..." and the other goes, "My mommy's gonna have a baby". These both started the same day. Possibly prophetic for some time in the distant future, but not in the near future. I am 100% positive about that. But she's cute, and she's creative, and I love it. : )

quotes

I'm copying quotes from Jody. She finds some good ones!

The great thing, if one can, is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one’s own or real life.

The truth is, of course, that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one’s real life –
the life God is sending one day by day.”
~C. S. Lewis

“We need to repent, for example, of our convenient assumption that following Jesus and pursuing the American Dream are in complete harmony and will take us in the same direction. They won’t. The reality of the kingdom is dangerous, and beautiful, and life-altering.”

(Rick McKinley)

Recently we were out working in the garden. First we picked about 25 strawberries. Our first crop of them since we planted them last year. While I was weeding other areas of the garden I noticed Callie wandering over to the bucket every so often and sneaking berries. So, I pointed out to William what Callie was doing and they had those berries gone by the time we went into the house.

And this is today.

She wanted to wear her Elmo harness. I guess I lost track of her even with her "leash" on.
